Julius Waldo Smith

JULIUS WALDO SMITH, age 72, of 308 Providence Road, Roxboro, NC passed away Monday morning, February 26, 2024 at his home.

Mr. Smith was born September 14, 1951 in Person County, NC, son of the late Bennie Lee & Gloria Snow Smith and was husband of 44 years to the late Susan Gail Jacobs Smith.  He was retired from Progress Energy and was a member of Longhurst United Methodist Church.

Waldo enjoyed working on Hot Rods, watching birds, UNC Basketball, watching old westerns with his brother, visits from his grand dog, Remi, and being with his family.

Surviving are two children, Scotty Smith & wife, Tanya, Christy Stewart & husband, Jason all of Roxboro, NC, four grandchildren, Rachel Smith McNair & husband, Travon, Dylan Smith & wife, Kirsty, Kristen Smith Morgan & husband, Christopher, Dawson Lee Stewart, three great-grandchildren, brother, Sandy Smith, nephew, Patrick Smith, and niece, Crystal Blalock.

In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Smith is preceded in death by a niece, Kimberly Dawn Smith.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 29, 2024 at Longhurst United Methodist Church with the Rev. Amanda Dixson officiating.  Entombment will follow in the Providence Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends and guests for one hour prior to the service at the church and other times at the home.

Pallbearers will be David Capps, Tommy Jones, Lindsey Martin, Joe McGhee, Van O’Brien, Donny Saunders, Kelvin Wilson, and Ricky Wrenn.  Honorary pallbearers will be Floyd Bowes, Dale Gentry, David Gentry, Dylan Smith, Patrick Smith, and Dawson Stewart.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Waldo’s caregivers, Anita Locklear, and Tonya Oxendine.
