Howard "Dickie" Pruitt

HOWARD “DICKIE” PRUITT age 92, of 3715 Bowmantown Road, Roxboro, NC died Thursday morning, November 4, 2021 at his home.

Mr. Pruitt was born January 26, 1929 in Caswell County, NC, son of the late Hezekiah & Lunnie Rice Pruitt and was husband of 69 years to Eunice Long Pruitt who survives.  He was retired from Collins & Aikman Corp. after 21 years of service and was of the Baptist faith.

Dickie enjoyed fishing, hunting, working, setting on his porch, chopping wood, and playing in the yard with his grandkids. 

Surviving in addition to his wife are three children, Donnie Pruitt & wife, Patricia, Susan Pruitt McAbee, all of Roxboro, NC, Wendy Pruitt Russell of Timberlake, NC, five grandchildren, Robin McAbee Oakley & husband, Kevin, David McAbee, Jr. & wife, Stephanie, Sherrey Guthrie & husband, Rickie, Scott Guthrie, Jason Guthrie, thirteen great grandchildren, Katelynn Oakley, Cody Oakley, Dylan Oakley, Eric Oakley, Logan McAbee, Jake McAbee, Brendan Noble, Alyssa McAbee, Abigale Oakley, Madelyn Oakley, Ciara Guthrie, Keelea Guthrie, Kyle Guthrie, three great-great grandchildren, Lyrik Johnson, Zay’Den Nelson, Sadie Oakley, two sisters, Lou Etta Pruitt Wall of South Boston, VA, and Becky Pruitt Golda of Clarksville, VA.

In addition to his parents Mr. Pruitt is preceded in death by five brothers, Hezehiak Pruitt, Joe Pruitt, Richard Pruitt, Woody Pruitt, Raymond Pruitt, three sisters, Elsie Pruitt Matherly, Maudie Pruitt Bradshaw, and Ollie Pruitt Horsley.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 6, 2021 in the Strickland and Jones Funeral Services Chapel with the Rev. Norman Talley and Pastor Frankie Reaves officiating.  Interment will follow in the Olive Branch Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends and guests from 6:30 till 8:00 p.m. Friday, November 5, 2021 at the funeral home and other times at the home.

Pallbearers will be David McAbee, Jr., Logan McAbee, Kyle Guthrie, Todd Long, Brendan Noble, and Kevin Oakley.  Honorary pallbearers will be Jake McAbee, Cody Oakley, and Dylan Oakley.
