Carol McLeen Solomon Knott 'Mac'

November 23, 1932 - February 23, 2024

Carol McLeen “Mac” Solomon Knott, of 623 Providence Road, Roxboro, went peacefully to her Heavenly Home on Friday February 23, 2024, at the home of her son. She is the daughter of Ralph Love Solomon and Emily Estelle Dunn. Granddaughter of Garner Monroe Solomon and Lula Maggie Pulliam; James 'Jim' Franklin Dunn and Frances 'Fannie' Elizabeth Moone.

Daughter-in-law of Charlie Henry Knott and Lona Ennis Bohanon; sister-in-law of James Earl 'Bunky' Knott and wife Gustavia 'Gus' Gentry, all of Roxboro, and Bobby Dean Knott and wife Julia Tate of Roanoke, Va. Also preceded in death by a sister Elizabeth Deloris Solomon; husband Roy Edward Knott, just a few days short of their 68th anniversary; and grandson Donald E. Knott aged 29 in 2012.  

Surviving are a son 'Doug' Douglas E. Knott and wife Angela, granddaughter Amanda and husband Robert Overby, great grandchildren Natalie, Aubrey, Haleigh, and Ryder; granddaughter in-law Bridget L. Martin Knott Gilliland; nephew James Earl Knott II (Jay) wife Wendy Hite and daughter Kelsey; niece Karla Augusta Knott and daughter Karen Day, as well as in-law Nancy J. Meeler, all of Roxboro, Jeffrey Knott of Roanoke, Va., and several cousins. 

Mac had a deep love for her Lord, family, and friends. She was a lifelong member of North Roxboro Baptist Church, attending Sunday school and services every Sunday, and most social events, until she was no longer able. 

She worked for Roxboro Cotton Mill in Longhurst (Tultex) since graduating high school in May 1950, retiring in May of 1999 after 49 years. 

She married the love of her life on December 23, 1950. Together they shared a love of a large extended family each other's parents, cousins, aunts and uncles, many friends, and neighbors; camping and fishing...calling Buggs Island their second home, and teaching their son and grandchildren all they knew about trolling for Stripers. They would occasionally have large fish fry's and music. 

She lived a good life. She was always happy, laughing, smiling, cooking, gardening, taking care of her family. She said at the last class reunion she was to attend, that being a grandmother gave her the joy of her twilight years. Though those years would be interrupted by health issues. 

Mac suffered a Brain Aneurysm in the early morning hours of August 16, 1999 while working in her Garden. After being stabilized at Person Memorial Hospital, she was flown to Duke. She underwent surgery to stop bleeding in her brain, though not expected to make a full recovery, after 2 months in hospital, most of that time in a coma, she awoke and never looked back. In six months from the aneurysm, she was driving, and living her life to the fullest. A stroke approximately twelve years later would leave her bedridden, asleep, and cared for by her family until the end. 

Long gone are the days when summer get-togethers meant loads of friends, neighbors, and family, as most of those mentioned above were awaiting her arrival at The Pearly Gates of Heaven. What a joyous occasion that must have been. 

The Family wishes to express their gratitude towards Reverend Ben Durand for visiting, sharing Scripture, praying with Mac & Roy for so many years, and acknowledge those friends who called to check on her and visited when they could...there are so many to name, she knew most everyone in town...to those still here...Thank You Brenda Whitt, Carolyn Jackson Taylor, 'J' John Dunn Jr, and the entirety of North Roxboro Baptist Church; Dr. Jeffrey Kafer and staff of Roxboro Medical Associates; Person Memorial Hospital; Duke University's Neurology Critical Care; Life Flight; Marvin Strickland of Strickland and Jones FS; Roxboro Police Dept. and Roxboro EMS. Thank you all so much for the love and compassion shown towards our Family and Matriarch. 

The Family will meet with friends an hour before (1pm) a Prayer Service to be held at Strickland and Jones Funeral Home on Tuesday February 27, 2024 at 2pm. Mac will then be laid to rest beside her beloved husband in Person Memorial Cemetery.
