Willie Banks Reaves, 81, of Timberlake, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at his home on May 10, 2026. Born on January 20, 1945, Willie was the son of the late Acey Banks Reaves and Willoree Wrenn Reaves of Roxboro. He grew up in a large, close-knit family that shaped his character, his work ethic, and his lifelong love of being outdoors.
Willie married the love of his life, Kathy Howerton Reaves, and together they built a home filled with faith, family, and simple joys. They were married for 57 years, and their devotion to one another was a constant source of strength.
In addition to his wife Willie is survived by his son, Allen T. Reaves, and wife Shannon, along with their children Katlynn, Megan, and Stone Reaves; and by his daughter, Jackie R. Simpson, and husband Jimmy, along with their son Austin Simpson. His children and grandchildren were his pride, and he loved them with a steady, unwavering heart.
Willie was one of eleven children. He is survived by his brothers Richard T. Reaves, Bobby R. Reaves (wife Vonnie), and Jerry N. Reaves (wife Robbie); and by his sisters Carolyn R. O’Dell and Dorthy R. Chambers; sisters-in-law Nancy Reaves, Hannah Reaves, Janice Reaves, and Robin Reaves; brother-in-law Sonny Mangum. He was preceded in death by his brothers Eugene F. Reaves, Robert T. Reaves, William B. Reaves, and Michael A. Reaves; and by his sister Jaunita R. Mangum; brothers in-law, Jack O’Dell, Kenneth Chambers; and sister-in-law Betty Reaves. Willie loved his brothers and sisters deeply, and the Reaves family bond remained strong across generations. Their tradition of gathering every 4th of July and Christmas continues to this day.
A hardworking man all his life, Willie started working at Longhurst Cotton Mill for a few years while also with the National Guard and later at Crown Aluminum/Hunter Douglas/ALSCO. After retiring, he found joy in gardening and operated a small roadside vegetable stand that became a beloved part of the Timberlake community. Neighbors knew they could always count on Willie for fresh produce, a warm smile, and a friendly conversation.
Willie was happiest outdoors. He loved farming, fishing, hunting, and playing softball, and he cherished the simple pleasures of country life. He was also known for his annual Brunswick stew, a tradition he shared generously with family and friends. Animals held a special place in his heart, especially the dogs and cats that were always part of his home.
A longtime member of Timberlake Baptist Church, Willie lived his faith quietly but sincerely. He believed in helping others, loving his family, and appreciating the blessings of everyday life.
Willie will be remembered for his loyalty, his humor, and the way he made everyone feel welcome. His legacy lives on in the family he loved, the community he served, and the countless memories he leaves behind.
