Walter Hicks Averett

WALTER HICKS AVERETT age 87, of 5966 US HWY. 158 East, Leasburg, NC died Tuesday morning, June 8, 2021 at his home.

Mr. Averett was born March 16, 1934 in Person County, NC, son of the late Luther & Rosa Hicks Averett. He was retired after 39 years of service from the North Carolina Department of Transportation.  Walter enjoyed fishing, playing cards, mowing his lawn, gardening and his salad patch, and cooking breakfast for his family every Christmas eve.

Surviving are two daughters, Wanda Briggs & husband, William of Yanceyville, NC, Vickie Marshall & husband, Chad of Graham, NC, four grandchildren, William Briggs Jr., Ashley Briggs, April Boggs, Tommy Marshall, two great grandchildren, Abby Carver, and Emersyn Briggs.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Averett is preceded in death by his siblings, Luther, Dan, Ridge, Willie, Catherine, Gerald, Janice, Estelle, and Louise.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 10, 2021 in the Strickland and Jones Funeral Services Chapel with the Rev. Bobby Tate officiating.  Interment will follow in the Leasburg Community Cemetery.  The family will receive friends and guests for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at the home.

Pallbearers will be Jason Boggs, William Briggs, Jr., Bryant Holt, Greg Holt, Tommy Marshall, and Bryant Reagan.  Honorary pallbearers will be Zeb Barnett, Lim Briggs, Mike Briggs, and Wayne Briggs.
