Virginia Christine (Shelton) Roberson

VIRGINIA CHRISTINE SHELTON ROBERSON, age 86, of 1416 North Main Street, Roxboro, NC died Sunday morning, June 18, 2023 at her home.   

Mrs. Roberson was born July 23, 1936 in Person County, NC, daughter of the late Joseph Daymon & Virginia Laura Hatcher Shelton and was wife of nearly 49 years to the late Richard Thomas Roberson, Sr.  She was retired from Longhurst Cotton Mill and previously worked at Roxboro Nursing Home and Fore-Acre and was a member of Longhurst United Methodist Church. 

Mrs. Roberson enjoyed cooking, working and weeding her flowers, quilting, cross word puzzles, the Atlanta Braves, listening to Merle Haggard, loved her church, and spending time with her family.    

Surviving is her daughter, Yolanda Roberson, of the home; sister, Rebecca Terry, of Cedar Bluff, MS; grandson, Dale Morris, of Leasburg, NC; three great granddaughters, Tiffany Morris, Chloe Morris and Kristina Morris.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Roberson is preceded in death by her son, Richard “Tommy” Roberson, Jr., sister, Cora Cash, and two brothers, Charlie Phillips and Joe Shelton. 

Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Wednesday June 21, 2023 in the Providence Baptist Church Cemetery with the Reverend Amanda Dixson officiating.   The family will receive friends and guests from 6:00 pm to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday June 20, 2023 at Strickland & Jones Funeral Services and other times at the home.
