Vilma "Sally" Joy (Lunsford) Bowling

VILMA JOY “SALLY” LUNSFORD BOWLING, age 85, of 118 Wiley Lunsford Road, Rougemont, NC died Saturday morning, January 22, 2022 at her home.

Mrs. Bowling was born May 12, 1936 in Person County, NC, daughter of the late Wiley & Lillian Oakley Lunsford and was wife of 56 years to the late Joe Thomas Bowling.  She was retired from GTE and was a member of Bethany Baptist Church.

Sally enjoyed going to church, singing in the choir, trips to the beach, traveling with her family, and spending time with her family.

Surviving are two children, Michael Todd Bowling, Kathy B. Oakley & husband, Ted all of Rougemont, NC, four grandsons, Jeremy Thompson, Joshua Oakley, Michael Ray Bowling & wife, Courtney, Matthew Joe Bowling & wife, Bailey, four great grandchildren, Jonathan Josef Thompson, Gaitlin Ray Bowling, Lila M. Bowling, Eisley Bowling, two nephews, Lynwood Lunsford, Dale Lunsford, and cousin, Susan Cox. 

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Bowling is preceded in death by two brothers, Wiley Ray “Flukie” Lunsford, and Sherwood “Snook” Lunsford.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 26, 2022 in the Bowling Family Cemetery with the Rev. Jeremy Quist officiating. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so from 10:00 a.m. till 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 25, 2022 at Strickland and Jones Funeral Services.  The family will receive friends and guests at the home.

Pallbearers will be Matthew Bowling, Michael Bowling, Lonnie Luxton, Joshua Oakley, Ted Oakley, and Jeremy Thompson.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bethany Baptist Church, 245 Bethany Church Road, Rougemont, NC 27572.
