Vennie Lee (Lunsford) Long

Vennie Lunsford Long, age 88, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2025, with her children by her side, at Roxboro Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Roxboro, North Carolina.

She was born on November 2, 1936, in Timberlake, North Carolina, the daughter of the late Thomas Dillon Lunsford and Iva Rogers Lunsford.

Her first job, prior to being a stay-at-home mom, was as the bookkeeper for the A&P Grocery Store in Roxboro, North Carolina. In mid-life, she went back to school, first at Piedmont Community College and later at North Carolina Central University earning both an undergraduate and a master’s degree. After earning her post-graduate degree, she worked as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor at John Umstead Hospital in Butner, North Carolina. After a short-lived retirement, she worked in various sales positions at Peebles Department Store in Roxboro, North Carolina.

In addition to loving her family, she was always an advocate for education and an avid viewer of ACC Basketball and cable news. Her most praised passion within the family was her “southern style” cooking skills that left no one unsatisfied.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel (Ray) Long, and one brother, Howard Dillon Lunsford.

She is survived by two children, Daniel Ray Long, Jr. (Danny), married to Ursula Pennebaker Long, and Kimberly Long Ferrell (Kim), married to Gordon D. Ferrell. She is also survived by one brother, Bonnie Ray Lunsford, and six grandchildren: Daniel Ray Long, III, Claire Suzanne Long, Anna Christian Long, Isabel Eleanor Long, Garrison Daniel Ferrell and Grant Long Ferrell.

The family will receive visitors between 3:00 PM and 4:00 PM Wednesday, October 29th at Strickland and Jones Funeral Services in Roxboro, North Carolina, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 4:00 PM presided by Pastor, T. Vernon Wilkerson.
