Tony Roop

TONY ROOP, age 81, of Timberlake, NC passed away Wednesday afternoon, December 18, 2024 at Person Memorial Hospital. 

Mr. Roop was born August 28, 1943 in Mingo County, WV, son of the late Hearl Lee Roop & Josephine Grogan Halley, and was husband of 62 years to Janice Faye Bailey Roop who survives.  Upon his retirement from the Durham Police Department after 30 years of service he started Roop & Associates Investigations which he ran from 1989 – 2013.  He was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Hillsborough, NC where he was a member of the Bobby Riley Sunday School Class, was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Club, the 20 Year Law Enforcement Club, and was a veteran of the US Army.

Tony enjoyed cooking for people, (stews, pig pickings, fish fries were some of his favorites).  He also enjoyed camping, beach trips, golfing, his church family, and spending time with all his family. 

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Kathryn Roop Salguero & husband, Michael, Cindy Meachum & husband, Billy, two grandchildren, Kevin Michael Salguero & wife, Kaitlyn, Breana, great-grandson, Miles, sisters, Brenda H. Chilcote & husband, Tom, brothers, Randolph Halley & wife, Carrie, Steven Halley & wife, Kellie, Jerrold Halley.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Roop is preceded in death by his step-father, Ezra Halley, sisters, Caroline R. Yount, Teresa Halley, and brother, Michael Halley.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 21, 2024 at Ebenezer Baptist Church with Pastor Bob Sipper and Pastor Earl Echols officiating. Private interment will follow in the Person Memorial Cemetery.  The family will receive friends and guests for one hour prior to the service at the church.
