Sterling C. (Long) Harris

STERLING C. LONG HARRIS, age 94, of 685 Gillis Road, Roxboro, NC, passed away peacefully Saturday afternoon, April 18, 2026 at Person Memorial Hospital with her loving family by her side.  Mrs. Harris was born February 10, 1932 in Halifax County, VA, daughter of the late John & Mary Warren Long and was wife of 60 years to the late William Merritt “Bill” Harris.  She was a homemaker and previously worked farming and as a seamstress at Fo-Arce Warehouse, and was a member of Triple Springs Baptist Church where she sang in the choir.

Sterling enjoyed her flower beds, going to Bojangles, going to church, and spending time with her family especially her grandchildren.

Surviving are three children, Linda H. Gill & husband, Kenneth, Glenn M. Harris & wife, Beverly, Roger D. Harris & wife, Brenda, four grandchildren, Heath Gill & wife, Dana, Brook Toone & husband, Jonathan, Sandy Meachum & husband, Kenneth, Robyn Harris-Morton & husband, Kendal, thirteen great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 22, 2026 at Triple Springs Baptist Church with Pastor Gene Wolfe officiating.  Private family interment will follow in the Triple Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends and guests at the home of Kenneth & Linda Gill, 749 Gillis Road, Roxboro, NC.  

Pallbearers will be Heath Gill, Dale Meachum, Kenneth Meachum, Kendal Morton, Jonathan Toone, and Wesley Toone.  Honorary pallbearers will be Brandon Meachum, and Will Meachum.
