RUTH FAYE CHILDRESS COATES, age 89, of Hurdle Mills, NC passed away Wednesday afternoon, December 10, 2025 at Duke University Hospital.
Mrs. Coates was born September 13, 1936 in Person County, NC, daughter of the late William Taft Childress, Sr. & Edna Womack Childress and was wife of the late Jimmy Rogers Coates. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.
Faye enjoyed listing to The Gaither’s, watching John Hagee and cartoons, crocheting, eating at Honey’s, going on rides with Glenn, and was an avid Tar Heel and Washington Redskins fan.
Surviving are three grandchildren, Candice Bryant, Brandon Coates & wife, Ruth, Christopher Bryant & wife, Nedra, seven great-grandchildren, two sisters, Marion Wesley, and Debra Stoner & husband, Randy.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Coates is preceded in death by two daughters, Jennifer Darlene Bryant, Kimberly Coates Wrenn, three sisters, Margaret Stone, Juanita Murray, Katie Harris, three brothers, William Childress, Floyd “Shag” Childress, and Bobby Childress.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 16, 2025 in the Strickland and Jones Funeral Services Chapel with the Rev. Patrick Sinclair officiating. Interment will follow in the Theresa Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends and guests for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
