"Rudy" Rufus Rogers Long

RUFUS ROGERS “RUDY” LONG, age 84, of 385 Old City Lake Road, Roxboro, NC passed away peacefully the day before his 85th birthday, Thursday evening, July 24, 2025 with his loving family by his side 

Mr. Long was born July 25, 1940 in Person County, NC, son of the late Clemon Dee & Hurley Mae Holt Long and was husband of nearly 62 years to Margaret Carol Hodges Long who survives.  He was retired from CE Thurston Company, previously worked with Long Brothers Masonry, and was a lifelong member of Oak Grove Church.

Rudy was an avid outdoorsman where he enjoyed, baseball, softball, hunting, fishing, and golfing.  He was a member of the Woodsdale Hunting Club and a member of more than 40 years at The Elks Lodge.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two children, Kendall Scott Long & wife, Kimberly, Christi Long Gravitte & husband, Randy, seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, two sisters, Ann Long Pergerson, Angela Long Solomon, and a host of nieces & nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Long is preceded in death by siblings, Larry Timothy Long, Rollie Dee Long, and Alma Sue Clayton.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 26, 2025 at Oak Grove Church with the Rev. Herbert Brown officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends and guests from 12:30 till 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church and other times at the home. 

Pallbearers will be Rodney Clayton, Nicholas Fox, Adam Oakley, Greg Oakley, JW Oakley, Woods Oakley, Dennis Pergerson, and Justin Pergerson.  Honorary pallbearers will be John Lawrence Blanks, Tony Clayton, Danny Fuller, Keith Watts, Mike Wilkerson, and Marshall Wrenn.
