ROSA ETTA WHITT MONTAGUE, age 92, of 1542 Barker Road, Milton, NC died Saturday evening, February 19, 2022 at her residence.
Mrs. Montague was born December, 17, 1929 in Halifax County, VA., daughter of the late Johnnie & Florence M. Long Whitt and was wife to the late Randolph Lantley Montague, Sr. She was a seamtress and attended Ephesus Baptist Church. Mrs. Montague enjoyed Word search puzzles, birds, animals, flowers and her garden.
Surviving are six children, Jimmy Dean Montague & wife, Shelia, Tommy Wayne Montague & wife, Gail, Jerry Dexter Montague & wife, Bonnie, Larry Edward Montague, Mary Carolyn Whitt & husband, Ben and Jo-Ann Palmer & husband, Butch, 24 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren, and 19 great- great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Montague is preceded in death by two sons, Randolph Lantley Montague, Jr., Johnnie Lee Montague, daughter, Wendy Darlene Newcomb, and four sisters, Esther Palmer, Gladys Phelps, Myrtle Nelson, and Ola Sue Nelson.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 22, 2022 in the Strickland and Jones Funeral Services Chapel with the Rev. David Bunch officiating. Interment will follow in the Whitt and Pleasant Family Cemetery, 1436 Barker Road, Milton NC. The family will receive friends and guests from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at the home.
Pallbearers will be Dustin Montague, Jeremy Montague, Jerry Montague, Jr., Travis Montague, Tommy Montague, Jr., Larry Montague, Jr., Jacob Palmer, and Joshua Palmer. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Joe Montague, Michael Montague, Ronnie Montague, Eric Newcomb, J.J. Newcomb, and Wayne Rudder.
The family would like to offer special thanks to the staff of Amedisys Hospice for their care of Mrs. Montague.
