Robert Julious Jones, of Burlington Rd in Roxboro, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on August 25, 2024, at the age of 97. Born on a snowy day, January 16, 1927, the doctor made his way by horse to bring Robert Julious Jones into this world. An entrance that made for one of his greatest stories to share. He lived a life dedicated to his faith, his family, his farm, and his community.
Robert was the proud father of Denice J. Blaylock (Yogi) and Robby W. Jones (Kasey), who brought immeasurable joy and pride to his life. Robert was known as Papa to his 3 grandchildren, Hannah Blaylock (boyfriend, Zach), Emma Crabtree (Ricky), and Avery O'Quinn. And "Old" Papa to 2 great-grandchildren, Ruby Mae and Huntley Belle Crabtree. Uncle Robert to many beloved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 70 years, Joyce Ann Jones, and his parents, Julious Monroe "Jule" Jones and Lizzie Wright Jones. Also preceding him in death were his brothers Curtis Hughes Jones, Linwood Cleveland Jones Sr., and Wiley Edward Jones, along with his sister Ruby Baynes Jones Rimmer and nephew, Michael Hall Jones.
A lifelong farmer, Robert dedicated himself to working the land on the Jones family farm. He loved talking about farming tobacco, cattle, and the dairy life.
He was an active member of Warren's Grove Methodist Church, where he held the position of Chairman of the Board of Trustees for over 40 years and was an integral part of the Methodist Men. His devotion to his wife, Joyce, served as a shining example of true love to all who knew them. They married in 1953 and Robert made sure his bride was cared for and loved.
Robert's love extended beyond his family and faith; he had a deep affection for his church, his friends, and his farm. He was immensely proud of overseeing and being an advocate for the addition to the fellowship hall at the church. Robert was always finicky and didn't mind sharing what was on his mind. He loved his tractors and up until his death could still talk Robby through the process of how to work on each one of them. He even went as far as having Jo Shotwell call a company in Missouri for parts just days prior to his passing.
He always cherished daily lunch dates with his brothers, and Robby, which later turned into his nieces, nephews and friends. He also cherished fundraisers at the church, afternoon desserts from Denice, and most recently the afternoon calls he shared with his granddaughter, Hannah. Robert laid a strong foundation for his family; and not just his kids, but his grandkids and great grandkids - 3 generations of teaching love, family, and faith. Those who had the privilege of meeting Robert were touched by his wisdom and left with a newfound appreciation for life.
Robert's family would like to express their sincerest gratitude to Jo Shotwell for her devoted support, love, and care. They are also immensely thankful for the dedication and compassion shown by Crystal, Merlynn, Danielle Hazel, Laura and Nancy in providing exceptional care.
A service to honor and celebrate Robert Jones' life will be held at 1:30 on Wednesday, August 28 at Warren's Grove Methodist Church, with graveside immediately following. Visitation will be prior to the service (12-1 PM) in the fellowship hall. The family would like to invite friends and all of those who loved Robert after the funeral at the Jones Residence.
Pallbearers will be Alan Duncan, Jerry Jobe, Lyn Jones, Bug Long, Floyd "Bunk" Long, and Howard Solomon. Honorary pallbearers will be Mickey Clayton, Aaron Duncan, Sonny Duncan, Robbie Mathis, and Terry Wright.
In his memory, his legacy of love, dedication, and kindness will continue to inspire all who knew him. Rest in peace, Robert Julious Jones, a beloved patriarch and pillar of his community.
