REV. BOBBY CLINTON BUCHANAN, age 88, of 988 Chub Lake Loop Road, Roxboro, NC died Saturday night, December 5, 2020 at his home.
Mr. Buchanan was born June 8, 1932 in Duplin County, NC, son of the late John Clinton Buchanan & Lottie Sumner Buchanan and was husband of 20 years to Faye Carver Buchanan who survives. Bobby graduated from Roxboro High School then went on to Wake Forest University for one year, Bluefield Jr. College for a semester, Lynchburg College, and graduated from Southeastern Seminary. He pastored Union Chapel Baptist Church in Alta Vista for five years while teaching English at Alta Vista High School, Sedalia, Mt. Hermon, and Pecks Baptist Churches in Bedford County for two years while teaching at Big Island High School, pastored Grottoes Baptist Church while teaching at Fort Defiance High School, came back to Person County in 1973 and pastored Front Street Baptist Church for 23 years, taught English at Southern Middle School, moved to Person High School as ISS Coordinator, and retired in 1997. Upon retirement he taught the Sr. Adult Men’s Sunday School Class at North Roxboro Baptist Church where he was a member. Bobby loved coaching track, football and baseball where he also played a very influential part in his students lives.
Bobby enjoyed bird hunting, golfing, working in his shop, building furniture pieces, and reading books by Louis Lamour.
Surviving in addition to his wife are four children, Angela Chard of Dayton, OH, George “Bucky” Buchanan of Durham, NC, Diana Thrasher & husband, L.R. of Colorado Springs, CO, John “Mikie” Buchanan & wife, Sherry of Lake Charles, LA, brother, Eddie Sumner Buchanan & wife, Ann of Roxboro, NC, ten grandchildren, Heath Painter (Tracie), Dylan Chard, Ashley Buchanan (Josh), Casey Oster (Warren), Crystal Breede (Erik), Lindsey Cherry (Joseph), John Thrasher, Abby Alexander (Dillon), Jillian Keesee, Paul Buchanan (Heather), eleven great grandchildren, Dake Painter, Elizabeth Franks, Kenneth Klontz, Emmitt Oster, Regan Breede, Gavin Breede, Tristen Cherry, Wyatt Cherry, Lillie Buchanan, Sawyer Hutchins, James Hutchins, his second family, Anthony Clayton & wife, Kathy of Timberlake, NC, Joshua Clayton & wife, Heidi, Nichole Martin & husband, Michael all of Roxboro, NC, eight grandchildren, Destiny Clayton, Noah Clayton, Austin Wilkerson, Jeremy Martin, Morgan Regan (Alan), Michaela Martin, Micah Martin, Mallory Martin, and two nieces.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Buchanan is preceded in death by his first wife, Mauralia “Pete” Alice Howell Buchanan, and grandson, J.W. Wrenn.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at North Roxboro Baptist Church with the Rev. Ben Durand and Dr. M. David Chambers officiating. Interment will follow in the Burchwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends and guests from 6:30 pm till 8:00 pm Tuesday, December 8, 2020 at Strickland and Jones Funeral Services and other times at the home.
Pallbearers will be Josh Clayton, Noah Clayton, Micah Martin, Heath Painter, Alan Regan, and Daniel Roberson. Honorary pallbearer will be Dylan Chard.
