"Pete" James Stigall Obituary

James Forrest "Pete" Stigall, 89, of Person County, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2025. Born on August 30, 1936, to Horace and Rosa Barnette Stigall, Pete was a man of many talents and interests who lived and experienced life to the fullest.

Pete proudly served in the National Guard and dedicated many years to law enforcement with the Roxboro Police Department and the Person County Sheriff's Department. His adventurous spirit later took him across the country as a skilled welder and truck driver, where he made countless friends and memories along the way.

He loved the outdoors—especially hunting, and was a car enthusiast from a young age. In his later years, nothing made him happier than relaxing in his recliner with a faithful dog on his lap and a good western on the television.

Pete was a beloved son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather. A brother to Lawrence Chester "Sandy" Stigall and his sister, Brenda Stigall Hobbie; a husband, first, to his former wife, Betty Wray Gentry, whom he shared many years with and raised their sons, Michael Kent Stigall and Steve Allen Stigall. He later married, Carolyn Benson Stigall, sharing many years and memories. He was a father-in-law to Brenda Glasscock Stigall and Maggie Garza Stigall; a grandfather to Shalon Stigall Lenfestey, Christeena Stigall Williams, and Matthew Brock Stigall; and a great-grandfather to Thomas and Noah Lenfestey, Alexander and Nathaniel Williams, and Navy Rae Stigall. He was also a cherished uncle to Michael Stigall and Doyle Hobbie.

He is preceded in death by his brother, Lawrence Chester "Sandy" Stigall, his son, Steve Allen Stigall, and his late wife, Carolyn Benson Stigall, with whom he will be laid to rest.

He was loved unconditionally and taught those around him lessons of patience, humor, and resilience that will carry on for generations. Pete leaves behind little miracles, laughter, and the gift of precious time shared right to the end.

We love you and will miss you, Pete—Dad, Papa, and friend.
