Nathaniel Cates, III

NATHANIEL CATES, III, age 77, of Roxboro, NC passed away Tuesday afternoon, January 14, 2025 at his home. 

Mr. Cates was born January 14, 1948 in Person County, NC, son of the late Nathaniel & Lula Royster Cates and was husband of 23 years to the late Nancy Jane Palmer Cates.  He was previously employed with Royal Park Uniforms and the Person County School System and was of the Baptist faith.

Nate enjoyed playing tennis, basketball, traveling, eating out at Red Lobster, and being with his family.   

Surviving are three sons, Kristopher Demond Cates, Mark Anthony Cates, Brian Oliver Cates, five grandchildren, Paris Cates, Daijuinae Cates, Mark Junior Cates, Nkayia Cates, and Marche Cates.

In addition to his parents and wife Mr. Cates is preceded in death by siblings, John Junior Cates, Henry Cates, Kattie Sue Raglan, and Mary Lunsford.

Celebration of Life services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 21, 2025 in the Strickland and Jones Funeral Services Chapel with Bishop Osmond Smith, the Rev. Anna Rogers, and evangelist Lula Street officiating.
