Mildred Jean (Lowery) Oakley

MILDRED JEAN LOWERY OAKLEY, age 88, of Roxboro, NC, passed away Wednesday evening, May 13, 2026 at the Hock Family Pavilion.  Mrs. Oakley was born July 20, 1937 in Person County, NC, daughter of the late Clement Hayes Lowery, Sr. & Edith Tuck Lowery and was wife of 68 years to the late William Russell “Bill” Oakley.  She was retired from Burlington Industries and was a member of High View Baptist Church.

Jean enjoyed flowers, cooking, cleaning her house, playing the piano, and being with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Surviving are two sons, Larry R. Oakley & wife, June, Scotty Oakley & wife, Vicky, four grandchildren, Justin Kyle Oakley, Kaylan Paige Oakley & fiancée, Hayden Rigney, Lauren Oakley Overby & husband, Matt, Austin Scott Oakley & wife, Caroline, three great-grandchildren, Lillian Nicole Overby, Merritt Claire Overby, and Saylor Paige Rigney.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Oakley is preceded in death by a sister, Clara Lowery Puryear, and brother, Clement Hayes Lowery, Jr.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 18, 2026 at High View Baptist Church with the Rev. Avery Dalton officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends and guests for one hour prior to the service at the church and other times at the home of Larry & June Oakley, 788 High Plains Road, Roxboro, NC 27574.

Pallbearers will be Carl Boyd, Timmy Cothran, Clement Lowery, Dale Phillips, Roger Rice, and Wright Whitlow.

The family would like to give special thanks to Jean’s caregivers, Tammy Carper and Sandra Stone, Roxboro Assisted Living and Heather and Rachel, and Duke Hospice at the Hock Family Pavilion.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to High View Baptist Church, 144 High View Church Road, Roxboro, NC 27574.
