Maxine (Champion) Denny

MAXINE CHAMPION DENNY, age 82, of 3502 Bluebonnet Drive, Wake Forest, NC passed away Monday morning, February 10, 2025 at her home. 

Mrs. Denny was born January 31, 1943 in Granville County, NC, daughter of the late Rufus Allen & Janie Virl Overton Champion and was wife of 59 years to the late Johnny Thaxton Denny.  She received her Associates Degree fron Vance Granville Community College in 1993 and was previously employed with Athol Manufacturing, NC Alcohol/Drug Resource Center, Governors Institute on Substance Abuse, and was a member of Sharon Baptist Church.

Maxine enjoyed trips to the beach & mountains, camping, traveling, dancing, going to Bluegrass festivals, shopping with her sisters, attending church, and spending time with her family. 

Surviving are three children, Jackie Diprimo & husband, Mark of Youngsville, NC, Keith Denny & wife, Jackie of Roxboro, NC, Valerie Hemenway & husband, Jed of Wake Forest, NC, four grandchildren, Shannon Denny, Brandy Denny (Louis), Trevor Diprimo, Jay Hemenway, five great-grandchildren, Alexis Ramirez, Ryan Denny, Adam Denny, Emma Lee Pajor, Amelia Diprimo, two sisters, Marie Wester, Josephine Yarbrough, two sisters-in-law, Darlene O’Brien & husband, Curt, and Rita Denny.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Denny is preceded in death by two brothers, Rufus Gerald Champion, and John Walter “J.W.” Champion.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 14, 2025 at Sharon Baptist Church with the Rev. Victor Blackwell officiating. Interment will follow in the Denny Family Cemetery.  The family will receive friends and guests from 6:00 till 7:30 p.m. Thursday, February 13, 2025 at Strickland and Jones Funeral Services and other times at the home. 

Pallbearers will be Freddie Autrey, Scot Brooks, Chris Denny, Kevin Denny, Denny Long, and Eddie Yarbrough.  Honorary pallbearers will be Donnie Denny, and Marty Perkins.
