MATTIE SUE LOWERY WHITFIELD, age 84, a resident of the Caswell House and formerly of 42 South Second Street Roxboro, NC passed away Friday morning, December 20, 2024 at the Caswell House.
Mrs. Whitfield was born January 24, 1940 in Person County, NC, daughter of the late Bernard Forrest Lowery, Sr. & Goldie Virginia Whitt Lowery and was wife of 60 years to the late James Merritt Whitfield. She was retired from Dialight and was a member of Cross Roads Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the choir.
Sue enjoyed singing, reading the Bible every day, cooking, and was passionate about her faith. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who loved spending time with her family.
Surviving are two daughters, Amanda W. Duncan & husband, Kendall, Kim W. Carver & husband, Jay, four grandchildren, Kyle Duncan & wife, Bekah, Kristen Clayton & husband, Tyler, Pressley Carver, Whit Carver, four great-grandchildren, Mattie Duncan, Duncan Henley, Nathan Clayton, Hallie Clayton, two brothers, Dennis Lowery, Emerson Lowery & wife, Barbara, and a host of nieces & nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Whitfield is preceded in death by two sisters, Tina Westbrooks, Nettie Mae Lowery, and brother Bernard Forrest Lowery, Jr.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 22, 2024 in the Person Memorial Cemetery with Dr. M. David Chambers officiating.
