MARY ALICE HUMPHRIES NELSON, age 81, of 685 Blue Wing Road, Roxboro, NC passed away peacefully Monday afternoon, June 30, 2025 at her home with her loving family by her side.
Mrs. Nelson was born April 4, 1944 in Person County, NC, daughter of the late Richard Lee & Nettie West Humphries and was wife of nearly 56 years to Roy William Nelson who survives. She was retired from the Granville County School System and was a member of Florence Avenue Baptist Church.
Mary enjoyed flowers, her dogs, canning, caring for others, her 1969 Chevelle, and being with her family. She was a very good athlete in her younger days having played basketball and softball, and was crowned Miss Mt. Tirzah.
Surviving in addition to her husband are a daughter, Rhonda Nelson Sanchez, two grandchildren, Christian Sanchez (Catilyn Long), Amanda Lynn Parker Lumpkins & husband, Scott, great-granddaughter, Amelia Grace Sanchez, three sisters, Katie H. Blalock, Linda H. Perkins, Margaret Humphries, brother, Ricky Humphries, and a host of nieces & nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Nelson is preceded in death by a sister, Shirley H. Russell & husband, George.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 3, 2025 at Florence Avenue Baptist Church with the Rev. Herbert Brown officiating. Interment will follow in the Virgilina Cemetery. The family will receive friends and guests from 1:00 till 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church and other times at the home.
Pallbearers will be Levi Boyd, Justin Humphries, Ray Nelson, II, Christian Sanchez, Hector Sanchez, Sr., and James Short.
