Mary Sue (Stone) Edwards

MARY SUE STONE EDWARDS age 88, of 2385 Pinehaven Court, Grayson, GA died Tuesday morning, September 14, 2021 at her home.

Mrs. Edwards was born one of eight children to the late George Ivy & Macie Bell Whitfield Stone on March 25, 1933 in Person County, NC, and was wife of the late Harold Thomas Edwards. She was retired from Kentucky Fried Chicken in Fredericksburg, VA after 18 years of service and was of the Baptist faith.  She raised six of her own children before retirement and then spent twenty-six of her retirement years living with her daughter and son-in-law in Grayson, GA.

Mary Sue loved butterflies, sewing, making quilts and other crafts for her family which was her number one priority. She thought holding a baby was among life’s happiest moments and one of life’s saddest sights was a fresh grave without flowers.  She was a true sweetheart to all who knew and loved her.

Surviving are four children, Roger Edwards & wife, Betty of Pensacola, FL, Debra Edwards Harnois & husband, Carey of Grayson, GA, Charles Edwards, Douglas Edwards both of Valdosta, GA, daughter-in-law, Kathy Weeks Edwards of Summerville, SC, sister, Katie Stone Rimmer of Roxboro, NC, special friend, Jo Ann Edwards Hanson of Grayson, GA, eighteen grandchildren, thirty-one great grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren, and many, many beloved nieces, nephews, and a lifetime of cherished friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Edwards is preceded in death by two sons, James Edwards, Lynwood Edwards, three sisters, Lily Mae Stone, Bessie Stone Bowes, Ella Stone Miller, three brothers, James Stone, Deanie Stone, and Franklin Stone.

Graveside services will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, September 18, 2021 in the Person Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. Chris Talley officiating.  The family will receive friends and guests from 10:00 a.m. till 12:00 p.m. Saturday, September 18, 2021 at Strickland and Jones Funeral Services.  

Pallbears will be Billie Jo Edwards Dees, Dan Dees, Daniel Dees, Krystal Edwards, Jacob Martin, and Joshua Osborn.
