Katherine "Kathy" Hardy

Kathy Hardy, age 72, passed away unexpectedly  on May 9, 2026. She was preceded in death by her father Thomas L. Hardy and partner John Gurley.

Kathy grew up in Durham, NC. She graduated from UNC-G with a BS in Nursing. Her entire nursing career was spent at Duke University, mostly working in orthopedic clinics. Kathy was a true caregiver, not only in her career, but with family, friends and neighbors as well. She was a straight shooter, factual (sometimes to a fault), but was a true softie at heart.

Kathy loved nature and animals. Over the years in Durham and Semora she and John rescued animals as large as horses and as small as field mice. All had a home on the funny farm. Once she left the farm due to the physical demands, she continued to garden and tend to the birds and squirrels in nature around her.

She adored her children and grandchildren. Nothing made her more proud or gave her greater joy than spending time with her grandchildren. She loved spending time with the “boys” Dylan and Dalton, at home or at one of their sporting activities.

Kathy is survived by son Chris Gescak, daughter Traci Hall (Josh), mother and step-father Jean and Ben Weaver, sister Terrie Hardy, grandsons Dylan Hall and Dalton Hall, and fur baby Squeeky.

Per Kathy’s request there will be no service.
