JOHN CURTIS O’BRIEN, SR., age 76, of 1595 Willow Oak Drive, Roxboro, NC passed away Monday afternoon, January 29, 2024 at Duke University Hospital.
Mr. O’Brien was born April 5, 1947 in Person County, NC, son of the late Taylor Leigh & Mary Ellen Gravitt O’Brien. He worked at Collins & Aikman Corp. prior to suffering a stroke and held several other jobs after that before retiring.
In his younger years, Curtis enjoyed playing softball and shooting pool and later just watching sports on television.
Surviving are two sons, John Curtis “Curt” O’Brien, Jr. & wife, Darlene, Dwayne Benford O’Brien, all of Roxboro, NC, two grandchildren, Kyle Shelton O’Brien, Brendon Josh O’Brien, three great-grandchildren, Hunter James O’Brien, Payton Elizabeth O’Brien, Zoey Blair O’Brien, and brother, Darrell O’Brien & wife, Shirley.
In addition to his parents, Mr. O’Brien is preceded in death by two brothers, Ronnie Leigh O’Brien, and Keith Michael “Joe” O’Brien.
Celebration of Life services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 1, 2024 in the Strickland and Jones Funeral Services Chapel with Dr. M. David Chambers officiating. The family will receive friends and guests for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
