Jean Hilton Rogers (Jeanie), age 77, died Monday, November 14. Jeanie was the daughter of the late Wingate and Sue Rogers. She was predeceased by her brother, James (Jimmy) Rogers.
Jeanie is survived by her sister Mary Sue Thompson (Jerry), sister-in-law Joan Rogers, nephew Bryan Thompson, nieces Sherri R. Baum and Kelly S. Rogers, and grandnieces Mary Jennings Baum and Emma Layne Thompson. She is also survived by numerous special cousins. She truly loved her family and enjoyed doting on their achievements and celebrating special occasions with them.
Jeanie was a lifelong member of Bethel Hill Baptist Church. She enjoyed serving as the pianist/organist there for 41 years, and she also loved listening to all genres of music.
Jeanie was a retired educator in Person County. She taught Math at Southern Middle School and later served as principal at North End Elementary, Earl Bradsher Elementary, and Northern Middle School. Children’s causes held a very special place in Jeanie’s life, and she regularly supported The Baptist Children’s Home of North Carolina. Just four days before her death, she made sure arrangements were made to support one family in need for Christmas.
Jeanie was an avid reader, often reading an entire book in a single day. She always kept her Kindle close by her side. She instilled the love of reading to many. A library was definitely lost today. She was also a devoted Carolina fan and enjoyed watching her Tar Heels play football and basketball.
