JEAN COIT WINSTEAD DAVIS, age 93, of 291 Davis Farm Road, Leasburg, NC, died Thursday morning, October 13, 2022 at her home.
Mrs. Davis was born June 19, 1929 in Person County, NC, daughter of the late Nash Lea Winstead & the late Mae Elizabeth Featherston and was wife of the late Gordon Stover Davis, Sr. She was a homemaker, farmer, and was a member of Leasburg United Methodist Church where she served in many capacities including church pianist and member of the choral choir and a variety of other committees. She was also an active member of the Leasburg United Methodist Women as well as a Sunday School teacher. Mrs. Davis delivered meals on wheels in Caswell County and was a beloved member in her community known by everyone as “Mama Jean”.
Mrs. Davis enjoyed bird watching, gardening, farming, baking, reading, playing cards, completing word searches and puzzles, and spending time with her family, particularly her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
Surviving are four children, Mike Davis & wife Jenny Lynn, Joyce Hall & husband, Brian, Jeanette Clayton & husband, Ricky, Cathy Brann & husband, Jerry, all of Leasburg, NC, five grandchildren, Chad Briggs, Kelly Davis & wife, Stacey, Morgan Brooks & husband Brandon “BB”, Anna Helms & husband David and Jordon Hall, ten great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Davis is preceded in death by a son, Gordon Stover Davis Jr., grandson, Reggie Clayton and ten brothers and sisters, Edith Pleasant, Hattie Mae Thompson, Wesley Winstead, Keith Winstead, Dorothy Bass, Ralph Winstead, Annie Glover, Lizzie Dawson, David Winstead, and Nash Winstead.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 16, 2022, at Leasburg United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ray Pearce officiating. Interment will follow in the Leasburg Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends and guests from 6:00 till 7:30 pm Saturday, October 15, 2022 at Strickland and Jones Funeral Services and other times at the home.
Pallbearers will be Brandon “BB” Brooks, Chad Briggs, Caleb Clayton, Kelly Davis, Jordon Hall, David Helms, and Bryant Holt. Honorary pallbearers will be Bert Coleman, Frank Davis, and Mickey Yeatts.
