Janet Delores (Clary) Gravitt

JANET DELORES CLARY GRAVITT, age 76, of 2807 North Main Street, South Boston, VA passed away peacefully Friday morning, May 9, 2025 at her home. 

Mrs. Gravitt was born December 17, 1948 in Halifax County, NC, daughter of the late Doyle Clary, Sr. & Hattie Bell Pollard Clary and was wife of 38 years to Bobby David Gravitt who survives.  She was retired from the Federal Prison in Butner, NC and was a member of Florence Avenue Baptist Church where she sang in the choir, was in the WOM, and was a Sunday School Teacher.

Janet enjoyed crocheting, watching westerns, and going to the beach.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a daughter, Jennifer Poole & husband, Jerry, three grandchildren, John Wayne Poole, Joni Hope Poole, Justin Lynn Poole, four great-grandchildren, Waverly Hope Poole, Hadley Grace Poole, Raiden Wayne Poole, Braxton Riley Bowes, and niece, Jan Edwards.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gravitt is preceded in death by a brother, Doyle T. “Butch” Clary, Jr.

Celebration of Life services will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, May 11, 2025 at Florence Avenue Baptist Church with the Rev. Herbert Brown officiating.  The family will receive friends and guests for one hour prior to the service at the church and other times at the home.
