James Elmer Poindexter

JAMES ELMER POINDEXTER age 75, of 9193 McGhee’s Mill Road, Semora, NC, died Friday night, October 14, 2022.

Mr. Poindexter was born June 5, 1947 in Person County, NC son of the late Marion Elmer & Sarah Florence Rice Poindexter and was husband of 44 years to Anita Carol Carver Poindexter who survives.  He was retired from the Person County Soil Conservation after 25 years and continued to farm after his retirement.

James enjoyed fishing, hunting, and farming.  He was known in the community for being a generous soul, always looking out for others before himself.  He was a hardworking person but spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, gave him immense joy.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three sons Jay Poindexter and wife, Gay of Semora, NC, Stephen Poindexter and wife, Melisa of Timberlake, NC, Travis Poindexter and fiancee, Courtney McMillan of Roxboro, NC, six grandchildren Claire Brann and husband, Andrew, Chase Poindexter, Lilly McMillan, Owen Poindexter, Olivia Poindexter, Henry Poindexter, and two brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 18, 2022 at Oak Grove United Methodist Church with Pastor Tim Bowes and Pastor Daniel Pantoja officiating.  Interment will follow in the Circle P Cemetery at 9193 McGhee’s Mill Road in Semora, NC.  The family will receive friends and guests from 12:30 till 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 18, 2022 prior to the service at the church and other times at the home of Jay and Gay Poindexter, 9195 McGhee’s Mill Road, Semora, NC.    

Pallbearers will be Andrew Brann, Darnell Carver, Frank Drumwright, Matt Eakers, Rod Featherston, Chase B. Poindexter, Zeb Saunders, and Rodney Thompson.  Honorary pallbearers will be Henry Poindexter and Owen Poindexter.
