Obituary

As a courtesy to the family:

Jack Randall Lowery, 76, of Mint Hill, passed away on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, at his home. Through the blessing of hospice, he was able to be there surrounded by family.

Jack was born in Person County, NC, on March 23, 1947, the son of Elvin and Cordie Evans Lowery. He grew up there, graduating from Bethel Hill High School. He went on to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he attained his Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. He moved to Charlotte and worked for a time before moving back to Person County where he eventually found his calling with the United States Postal Service. There, he worked serving his neighbors and friends as a postal carrier for 30 years before his eventual retirement. When not working, he enjoyed reading, coaching and playing baseball and softball, sports in general. Most of all, Jack loved the time spent with family and friends, and later in life, being “Grandaddy Daycare”.

Upon returning to Person County and attending Olive Branch Baptist Church, he met the Ms. Janice Jones. Now, she was a bit different than the first time he met her, as a grade schooler on the bus he drove as a high schooler, and they began dating. Truly finding the love of his life, they were married in Person County on January 17, 1975. They moved to the Charlotte area in 2007 when he retired.

Jack is survived by his wife, Janice, of Mint Hill; four children: Amy Jo (husband David) Wehrenberg of Roxboro, NC, Adam (wife Katie) Lowery of Reston, Virginia, Brett (the smart one) Lowery of Mint Hill, and Alexis (husband Billy) Hubert of Mint Hill; grandchildren: Ryan Wehrenberg, Megan Wehrenberg, Shai-anne Rochester, Ashanti Lowery, Will Hubert, Hunter Chastain, Randy Hubert, Chase Chastain, Rosalie Hubert, Rachel Hubert and Wyatt Hubert; a great grandchild Leilani Martin; siblings: Faye Fitch of Burlington, NC, Melody Reed of Monroe, NC, and Patricia Hudson of Person County. Jack is further survived by numerous other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
