Henry Hollie Obituary

HENRY GLENN HOLLIE passed away peacefully Sunday, January 19, 2025 at UNC Medical Center. He was 69 - 7 months from turning 70. Glenn was born & raised in Roxboro, NC, son of the late Henry Norman & Mary Betty Louise Huff Hollie.  Although he was born with a mental disability, He made a huge impact on family, friends and those who met him. His quick wit, outgoing personality, he greeted everyone with a warm smile, hand shake and a hug. He was a gentle, loving and kind soul who demonstrated unconditional love without prejudice.

As a young child he enjoyed playing outside with nearby neighbors. He liked playing cowboys & indians especially with his younger sister. Glenn was gifted with playing the guitar by ear. He was incredibly talented and creative with a large set of building blocks which he created towers, buildings, and homes.  He relished hours of time spending building homes with his Lincoln logs.

Glenn loved working with his hands so you could find him in the tools shed behind the family home working on old radios and televisions. Glenn earned money by mowing grass for neighbors, collecting bottle caps and working at various workshops in the triangle. At one point he worked part time for Hardees in Chapel Hill.

His music of choice was original country music which included his favorites such as Johnny Cash, Earl Scruggs & Lester Flat, Hank Williams, Conway Twitty, Randy Travis. His favorite tv shows were westerns such as Gun Smoke, John Wayne, Rifleman, Bonanza, and Big Valley.

Before his health declined, he enjoyed staying with his sister at her home especially at Christmas.  He savored the opportunity of going out to eat with friends, going to movies, getting manicures & pedicures and shopping sprees at the flea market and shopping mall.

Glenn's unwavering gentleness, kindness and sense of humor made every moment special. Precious memories of his innocence, sweet presence, love, and laughter will be forever cherished & missed until we meet again in Heaven.

Surviving is a sister, Christie Fernandez & husband, John Bennett.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Hollie is preceded in death by his grandparents, John Henry & Mary Etta Chambers Huff, and George Daniel & Indiana Miller Hollie.
