Harold Jones Obituary

HAROLD WAYNE JONES, age 82 of 70 Beechwood Lane, Leasburg, NC passed away Thursday morning, November 9, 2023 at his home. He was known to most as "Wayne" and lovingly called "Papa" by many he met over the years.

Wayne was born in Camden, NJ on February 28, 1941 to the late Harold Jones and Ruth Williamson Jones. He lost the wife he cherished, Kathleen, on August 10, 2023. They were married for 58 years and knew each other years longer as they grew up across the street from each other.

As a retired civil engineer with the New Jersey Department of Transportation, Wayne's intellect, mathematical prowess, and inquisitive nature was recognizable in everything he did. He was an amazing woodworker building his dream home on Hyco Lake. Together he and Kathy spent years celebrating holidays and events with family and friends in a house made a home with unique touches of their personalities and many pieces of furniture built by Wayne himself. He loved his family and lit up when they were all together.

He enjoyed duck hunting in his early years as a means to learn shape, form and color for another passion, decoy carving. Wayne won medals and ribbons in prestigious contests along the East Coast. In his retirement, his focus shifted to landscaping. He was lovingly known to have a meticulous yard and a lawn like a golf course.

Wayne also had a great love for his Oak Grove Church family. He volunteered on numerous committees over the years donating his time without hesitation. He was blessed to be involved with the establishment of the Food Pantry and enjoyed serving anyone in need. He also served the community as head of the Meals on Wheels church route for over 20 years. Wayne didn't just drop off the meals, he got to know each person spending time visiting at length when he could. Wayne often took care of odd jobs for them and always dropped off a basket of love prepared by he and Kathy at Christmas.

Wayne is survived by his mother- in-law, Grace Klauss of Roxboro, daughter, Cheryl Lockwood and partner, Marc Reid of Roxboro, son, Mark Jones and wife, Jeanie of York, PA, granddaughter, Ellie Lockwood, and grandsons, Nathan Jones, Evan Jones, and Colin Jones. He is preceded in death by his father, Harold Jones and his mother, Ruth Williamson Jones and his beloved wife, Kathleen Klauss Jones.

Daniel Pantoja officiating.  The family will receive friends and guests for one hour prior to the service at the church.  All are invited to attend a reception in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service.
