"Gwen" Gwendolyn Ann (Elliott) Woody

Our sweet Mama, Gwen Woody, went to be with Jesus the morning of March 21, 2022. She was the daughter of the late Briscoe & Gertrude Elliott and was raised in Nelson, Virginia.  She met and married Daddy, Patrick Henry “Pat” Woody, Jr. in 1960 and they began life together in the Bethel Hill community.  Daddy entered heaven in 2018.

The hymns Mama loved were playing as she was ushered into His presence Monday morning.  Her favorite people were her family, son George Woody and wife, Laura, grandson Jackson Woody, daughter, Jackie Tate, great granddaughter, Cami Wagner, granddaughter, Meghan Whitlow, grandson Landon Whitlow, daughter, Mary Driskill & husband, Steve, grandson, Dane Driskill & wife, Callie, great grandchildren, Della, Daniel, and Diana Driskill, and grandson, Ethan Driskill.  She also loved her church family and was never happier than when she was cooking or helping with some event for the church.  Many meals were cooked by her in our home growing up and many extras sat around our table and were always welcome.  Mama worked for the NC Department of Corrections for many years and retired with honors.  Later in life she worked at Roses Department Store where she made many friends.  Mama was “tiny but mighty”.  She didn’t let her small stature ever stop her from trying to join in whatever project someone needed help with.  We will miss her greatly but were so blessed to be able to have her in our lives.  Until we meet again; we love you, Mama.

Mrs. Woody is preceded in death by her parents, Briscoe & Gertrude Snead Elliott, husband of 57 years, Patrick Henry "Pat" Woody, Jr., and brother, Linwood Elliott.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 25, 2022 at Bethel Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Robbie Dunn and the Rev. Mark Alexander officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends and guests from 5:30 till 8:00 p.m. Thursday, March 24, 2022 at the church and other times at the home of George and Laura Woody, 555 Bethel Hill School Road, Roxboro, NC.

Pallbearers will be Lynn Brandon, Elijah Dunn, Joe Elliott, Chris Jacobs, Woody Jacobs, and Sammy Johnson.  Honorary pallbearers will be Randy Brandon, Robert Brooks, Tony Dawkins, Melvin Elliott, Charles Long, Allen Watts, Harry Watts, Putt Welton, and Larry Wilson.

Flowers are acceptable or memorial contributions may be made to the Bethel Hill Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 201 Old US Hwy. 501, Roxboro, NC 27574.
