Gertrude Marie (Nelson) Kelley

GERTRUDE MARIE NELSON KELLEY, age 90, of Oxford, NC passed away Friday, January 16, 2026 at her daughter’s home.  Mrs. Kelley was born October 5, 1935 in Person County, NC, daughter of the late William Buck & Emma Sue Wilson Nelson and was wife of 62 years to the late James Thomas “Jimmy” Kelley.  She was a seamstress having retired from Walker Draperies and was of Christian faith.

Surviving are three daughters, Dolores “Dee Dee” Taylor, Katheryn Whitlow & husband, Jimmy, Cheryl Chaney & husband, Mike, nine grandchildren, Kelley, Nikki, Mandi, Jenni, Brandon, Michael, Zachary, Matthew, and Jackson, ten great-grandchildren, and brother, William Roy Nelson.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Kelley is preceded in death by four sisters, Anna Bell Alkins, Esther Dixon, Edith Nelson, Lizzie Nelson, and brother, James Raymond Nelson.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 30, 2026 at Virgilina Cemetery with the Rev. Herbert Brown officiating.

Pallbearers will be Jackson Chaney, Matthew Chaney, Michael Chaney, Zachary Chaney, Randy Nelson, and Brandon Whitlow.
