George Nelson Powell

GEORGE NELSON POWELL, age 89, of Roxboro, NC passed away Sunday evening, December 22, 2024 at his home. 

Mr. Powell was born March 3, 1935 in Person County, NC, son of the late William Locket & Mable Clayton Powell and was husband of 58 years to Brenda Faye Oakley Powell who survives.  He was retired from Home Oil Company, was previous owner of Powell Ambulance Service, was a member of Lamberth Memorial Baptist Church, and was a veteran of the US Army.

George enjoyed rabbit hunting, fishing, bowling, gardening, and tomatoes.   

Surviving in addition to his wife are four children, Sammy Powell & wife, Kim, Tina Powell, Donnie Powell & wife, Brandie, Amy Whitlow all of Roxboro, NC, ten grandchildren, Ashley Turley, Blake Powell, Brittany Powell, Austin Powell, Thomas Duncan, Tanner Duncan, Kyla Powell, Lexi Powell, Ty Whitlow, Kenli Whitlow, eleven great-grandchildren, and sister, Betty Smith.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Powell is preceded in death by ten siblings, and a son-in-law, Darren Whitlow.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 24, 2024 at Lamberth Memorial Baptist Church with Pastor Ricky Lamm officiating.  The family will receive friends and guests in the fellowship hall after the service and other times at the home.
