GARY WESLEY MATIE age 64, of 1181 Cavel Chub Lake Road, Roxboro, NC died Wednesday evening, August 7, 2019 at UNC Hospital.


Mr. Matie was born December 21, 1954, in Warren County, PA son of the late Herman Leroy & Nellie Vera Johnson Matie and was husband of 38 years to the late Bonnie Kay Mott Matie.  He was employed with Polywood Inc., was of the Christian faith, and was a veteran of the US Marines.


Surviving are four daughters, Teresa Price & husband, Perry of Blackshear, GA, Lori Blizzard of Chloe, WV, Stacey DeBaun of Roxboro, NC, Kristi Matie of Manning, SC, ten grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, three brothers, Paul Matie & wife, Diane of Beaufort, SC, Don Matie & wife, Carol of Aiken, SC, Roger Lee Matie & wife, Rebecca of Oceanside, CA, and sister, Patricia Brown & husband, Tony of Soltona, AK.


In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Matie is preceded in death by two sons, Robert Blizzard, and Wesley Matie.


A Celebration of Life will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 11, 2019 in the Strickland and Jones Funeral Services Chapel with Bishop Peter Baker officiating.

An additional Celebration of Life will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. Friday, August 16, 2019 at Cornerstone Christian Church, 2301 1st Blvd., Beaufort, SC 29902 with Pastor Ron Atkinson officiating.  Inurnment will follow in the Beaufort National Cemetery.


In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Homes for our Troops, 6 Main Street, Taunton, MA 02780.
