Gary Lynn Latta

GARY LYNN LATTA age 67, of 1722 Morton-Pulliam Road, Roxboro, NC died Wednesday afternoon, March 29, 2023 at his home with his loving family by his side.

Mr. Latta was born October 21, 1955 in Person County, NC, son of the late Douglas McLean Latta, Sr. & the late Ida Sue Oakley Latta and was husband of nearly 40 years to Michaelle Harrison Latta who survives.  He was the founder of Spectra Systems, was retired from Person County as IT Director after 17 years of service, and was of the Baptist faith.

Gary went to work for Person County in the early 2000’s as their Technology person and a one man department to assist all county departments in their technology plans and repair.  After a few years all of the county departments began turning their IT responsibilities over to Gary and as the work load increased, they were forced to hire their first employee.  He began coordinating, the purchases, installation, maintenance, and networks for various departments and eventually all departments.  The county became really great with internet and technology in providing their services to the community.  They started television coverage of Commissioner meetings and other events under Gary’s leadership.  As time went by, Gary was instrumental in the planning, design, purchasing, and installation of technology in the Human Services building, the 911 Center, and getting mobile internet stations running for public safety staff.  The county and the community have benefited from many of the things he started and developed and are better off because of it.

Gary enjoyed electronics, gaming, being outdoors, four-wheeling, his dogs, remote controlled helicopters and airplanes, target shooting, gun collecting, and spending time with his family.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Alisa Gray Latta-Pergerson & husband, Chase of Roxboro, NC, grandson, Eli Chase Pergerson, brother, Douglas McLean Latta, Jr. of Raleigh, NC, a number of treasured aunts, and his beloved pups.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 2, 2023 in the Strickland and Jones Funeral Services Chapel with Wallace Bradsher officiating.  Interment will follow in the Oakley Family Cemetery.  The family will receive friends and guests from 6:00 till 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 1, 2023 at the funeral home and other times at the home.

Pallbearers will be Steve Carpenter, Douglas McLean Latta, Jr., Henry Loftis, Adam Oakley, Craig Oakley, and Chase Pergerson.  Honorary pallbearers will be Carlton Howard, III, Greg Allen Oakley, and Barry Talley.
