With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Gail O’Briant Foushee, 83, of Roxboro, North Carolina, on September 20, 2025, after a brief battle with dementia. She passed peacefully, surrounded by her daughter, Lisa Foushee Jones, and son-in-law, James Jones.
Born on September 14, 1942, in Roxboro to Reuben and Virginia Gibson O’Briant, Gail graduated from Roxboro High School in 1961. She went on to own the Spanish Doll Salon and worked as a beautician for more than 50 years.
Gail’s passions were simple but heartfelt. She loved tending her garden, feeding her birds, and caring for the neighborhood cats. She was rarely without a crochet hook in hand, creating her signature “dishrags,” which she gifted generously to friends, family, and even acquaintances. She also partnered with her husband, Rickey, assisting him with painting his handcrafted wooden treasures. Perhaps most of all, Gail will be remembered for her thoughtfulness. She sent cards to anyone in need of encouragement. In her later years, even as dementia advanced, she pre-signed dozens of cards with “Love, Gail,” though she often forgot to send them.
Gail was a devoted caregiver throughout her life, tending to her father, husband, and mother in their final years. She constantly put the needs of others before her own. Later in life, she found joy and companionship with James Hobgood, sharing her love of church, fellowship, and time with family and friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Lisa, and son-in-law, James, of Fallston, Maryland; her granddaughter, Madison Rose Jones, of New York City; and her grandson, Ian Matthew Jones, of Chicago. She is also remembered with love by many cousins who lived nearby and supported her throughout her journey.
A celebration of Gail’s life will be held on Saturday, October 4, at 12:00 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church, 677 Antioch Church Road, Timberlake, NC. A reception will follow at The Homestead Steakhouse and Restaurant, 205 Frank Timberlake Road, Timberlake.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Antioch Baptist Church in Gail’s honor.
