Eunice Mae (Long) Pruitt

EUNICE MAE “SHUG” LONG PRUITT, age 96, of 3715 Bowmantown Road, Roxboro, NC passed away Tuesday night, May 14, 2024 at Duke University Hospital. 

Mrs. Pruitt was born January 21, 1928 in Person County, NC, daughter of the late Silas Carey & Dora Rebecca Stone Long and was wife of 69 years to the late Howard Pruitt.   She was retired from farming and was of the Baptist faith.

Eunice enjoyed cooking, flowers, gardening, raising chickens, sitting on the porch watching the humming birds and squirrels, and having her grandchildren visit.   

Surviving are three children, Donnie Pruitt & wife, Patricia, Susan McAbee, Wendy Russell & companion, Mike Jablonski, five grandchildren, Robin McAbee Oakley & husband, Kevin, David McAbee, Jr. & wife, Stephanie, Sherrey Guthrie (Rickie Allen), Scott Guthrie & husband, Ale, Jason Guthrie, thirteen great-grandchildren, Katelyn Oakley (Billy Warwick), Cody Oakley, Dylan Oakley, Eric Oakley, Abigale Oakley, Madelyn Oakley, Brendan Noble, Logan McAbee, Jake McAbee, Alyssa McAbee, Ciara Guthrie, Kyle Guthrie, Keelea Guthrie (LaDarius Nelson), three great-great grandchildren, Lyrik Johnson, ZayDen Nelson, Persephone Warwick, two sisters, Mattie Wilson, and Marie Brinkley.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Pruitt is preceded in death by three sisters, Drucilla Long, Christine Long, Sadie “Peg” Lunsford, and brother, Rufus Long.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 17, 2024 in the Strickland and Jones Funeral Services Chapel with Pastor Gene Wolfe and Pastor Frankie Reaves officiating.  Interment will follow in the Olive Branch Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends and guests from 6:30 till 8:00 p.m. Thursday, May 16, 2024 at the funeral home and other times at the home.

Pallbearers will be Kyle Guthrie, David McAbee, Jr., Jake McAbee, Cody Oakley, Dylan Oakley, and Kevin Oakley.  Honorary pallbearers will be, Ciara Guthrie, Keelea Guthrie, Sherrey Guthrie, Lyrik Johnson, Alyssa McAbee, Logan McAbee, and Brendan Noble.
