Elizabeth "Betsy" Jane (Hicks) West

ELIZABETH “BETSY” JANE HICKS WEST, age 81, of 644 Dove Circle, Bluefield, VA, passed away Thursday night, May 16, 2024 at UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill, NC. 

Mrs. West was born August 7, 1942 in Florence County, SC, daughter of the late John Dudley Hicks & Mary McAllister Hicks and was wife of 60 years to Peter John West who survives.   She was retired from Clinch Valley Medical Center in Richlands, VA and was a member of First Baptist Church where she was active in Sunday School, Missions, WMU, and the Senior Adult Ministry.

Betsy enjoyed playing the piano, sewing and crafts, growing beautiful flowers, and was a great South Carolinian cook.   

Surviving in addition to her husband are two sons, Paul A. West of Princeton, WV, Mark D. West & fiancée, Trish Kelley of Bluefield, VA, five grandchildren, Shane W. West of Abingdon, VA, Zachary J. West & wife, Carman of Bluefield, VA, Michael West of the home, Logan West, Landon West, both of Princeton, WV, two great-grandsons, Hunter West, Walker West who were a joy to Betsy’s life, nephews, Robert Poole & wife, Cheri of Atlanta, GA, Steven Hicks & wife, Sherrie of Germantown, TN, John Poole & wife of Brazil, nieces, Julia Wiman & husband, Chet of Owensboro, KY, Delores W. Bolender & husband, Don of Goldsboro, NC, Matquita West of Raleigh, NC, Beverly Stokesburg & husband, Jeff of Disputanta, VA, Arlene Owens & husband of Buffalo Junction, VA, Patricia Edwards & husband, Jeff of Louisburg, NC, sisters-in-law, Weeda Buchanan, Jo Blackley of Kittrell, NC, Charlotte West of Chester, VA, Marie West of Roxboro, NC and brother-in-law, Wade West of Roxboro, NC.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. West is preceded in death by two sisters, and a brother.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 24, 2024 at First Baptist Church, 1325 Augusta Street, Bluefield, WV.  Interment will follow on Saturday, May 25, 2024 in the Olive Branch Baptist Church Cemetery, 7588 Dirgie Mine Road, Roxboro, NC at 2:00 p.m.

Honorary pallbearers will be Sam Clark, Mike Hawkins, Gary Kensinger, Tom Lafone, Ron Linkous, Don Rice, Abel Solademi, and Ron Townley.
