Edwin Merritt Reaves

EDWIN MERRITT REAVES, age 87, of 5660 Durham Road, Roxboro, NC passed away Sunday night, August 13, 2023 at Roxboro Assisted Living Center.

Mr. Reaves was born October 25, 1935 in Person County, NC, son of the late Sterling Allen & Lonie Jane Solomon Reaves.  He was retired from the NCDOT and was a member of Ephesus Baptist Church. 

Edwin enjoyed fishing, flower and vegtable gardening, working at Twins Meat Market, going to church, reading the Bible, visiting with the residents of Roxboro Assisted Living, and spending time with his family.

Surviving are five children, Dottie Hutchins, Kathy Boyd, Edwin Glenn “Skeeter” Reaves, Billy Allen Reaves, Bobby Joe Reaves & wife, Crystal, five siblings, Wilma Bowling, Regina Gray, Stanley Reaves & wife, Joan, Herman Reaves, Deborah Woody, sister-in-law, Martha Reaves, two step-children, Jena Perry, Jason Bullock, nineteen grandchildren, twenty-eight great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, and special friends, Josephine Carey, and Cassey Tharp.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Reaves is preceded in death by siblings, Jimmy Reaves, Roger Reaves, Texie Mae Bowes, Curtis Reaves, and Willie Milo Reaves. 

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 17, 2023 in the Strickland and Jones Funeral Services Chapel with pastor David Bunch officiating.  Interment will follow in the Ephesus Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends and guests from 6:30 till 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at Strickland and Jones Funeral Services and other times at the home of Regina Gray, 610 Hassell Horton Road, Hurdle Mills, NC.

Pallbearers will be Dustin Amos, Jason Bullock, Chris Gray, Stevie Hutchins, Austin Reaves, and Bryson Reaves.  Honorary pallbearers will be Marsha Adams, Heather Beaver, Amy Fox, Debbie Harris, Cameron Reaves, Hayley Reaves, Patrick Reaves, and Sandra Scoggins.
