Edward Lee Powell, Jr.

EDWARD LEE POWELL, JR., age 83, of 5375 Emeraldwood Drive, Durham, NC died Thursday morning, February 3, 2022 at the VA Medical Center in Durham.

Mr. Powell was born May 4, 1938 in Durham County, NC, son of the late Edward Lee Powell, Sr. & the late Minnie Draughon Powell. He was retired from Duke Power Company, was of the Methodist faith, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Mr. Powell enjoyed fishing, golfing, and trips to the beach to surf fish.  

Surviving are a son, Michael Todd Powell of Durham, NC, two brothers, Michael Wayne Powell & wife, Cathy of Emerald Isle, NC, Bill Powell & wife, Carrie of Roxboro, NC, two sisters, Leeray Feldon & husband, Terry of Mebane, NC, Diane Powell of Myrtle Beach, SC, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 7, 2022 at Mt. Sylvan United Methodist Church with the Rev. Larry Bowden officiating. Interment will follow in the Person Memorial Cemetery.  The family will receive friends and guests for one hour prior to the service at the church.

Pallbearers will be Greg Brooks, Jay Garrad, Rod King, Joe Powell, Mike Powell, and Ken Ritchie.

Flowers are acceptable or memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Sylvan United Methodist Church, 5731 North Roxboro Road, Durham, NC 27712.
