EARL “WHITEY” LEE DAVIS age 80, of 6306 Dirgie Mine Rd., Roxboro, NC died Wednesday afternoon, February 24, 2021 at the home of his daughter, Dee Dee.
Mr. Davis was born May 30, 1940 in Person County, NC, son of the late Wooden Lee Davis & Nancy Lou Davis and was husband of 29 years to Linda T. Davis who survives. He is retired from Sprint (Embarq-Century Link) after 39 years of service, and was a veteran of the US Army. Whitey enjoyed golf, football, baseball, and loved his family and friends. He also loved his loyal pets. He was member of the Moose Lodge and the Elks Lodge.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters Deloris “Dee Dee” Davis of Roxboro, NC, Rhonda Davis of Danville, VA, five step children Lisa D. Shull of Roxboro, NC, Donald Ray Shelton, Lawrence Shelton of Danville, VA, Emily Webster and husband, Danny of Burlington, NC, Brenda Wiles & husband David of Nelson, VA, two sisters, Sue White of Roxboro, NC, Neil Whitt of Florida, brother Stanley Bruce Davis (Poochie) of Roxboro, NC, fourteen grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.
In addition to his parents Mr. Davis is preceded in death by a brother, Carol (Pap) Davis, grandson, Joshua Lee Overby, and one great great grandson, Keelan Gunner Lee Overby.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 27, 2021 in the Strickland and Jones Funeral Services Chapel with the Rev. Herbert Brown and the Rev. Avery Dalton officiating. Internment will follow in the Oak Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends and guests for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at Whitey’s home, and his daughter, Dee Dee’s home.
Pallbearers will be Pete Gentry, Wayne Gentry, Larry Marshall, Rudy Long, Tommy Suitt, and Walter (Skippy) Tuck. Honorary pallbearers will be Wimp Clayton, Bob Coleman, Maurice Howerton, Larry Long, W.A. Long, Joe Eye Wrenn, and Talmadge Yancey.
