Donald Ray Burgess

DONALD RAY BURGESS, age 79, of 54 South 3rd Street, Roxboro, NC died Sunday afternoon, January 17, 2021 at the VA Medical Center.

Mr. Burgess was born September 11, 1941 in Durham County, NC, son of the late Bernard & Lottie Mae Bradley Burgess.  He was a correctional officer, was of the Baptist faith, and a veteran of the US Army where he served during the Vietnam era. 

Donald was a member of the 6th NC Infantry where they created re-enactments of the Civil War.  He also enjoyed dancing, fishing, and clogging.  

Surviving are two children, Kim Crabtree (Ronnie Morris) of Butner, NC, Tommy Burgess of Roxboro, NC, five grandchildren, Erica Burgess, Joshua Burgess, Brittany Weller, Dustin Bauman, Tara Messer, two great grandchildren, Trey Messer, Bailey Crabtree, and brother, Henry Burgess.

In addition to his parents Mr. Burgess is preceded in death by several siblings.

Memorial services will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 6, 2021 in the Strickland and Jones Funeral Services Chapel.  Inurnment will follow in the Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Durham, NC.
