Daphne May (Route) Wilbourn

DAPHNE MAY ROUTE WILBOURN, age 88, of 12066 Virgilina, Roxboro, NC passed away Wednesday evening, July 12, 2023 at her home.

Mrs. Wilbourn was born May 8, 1935 in Kings Lynn, England, daughter of the late Ernest & Hannah May Massen Route and was wife of the late Elsmere Allan Wilbourn.  She was a homemaker, previous owner/operator of The Pizza Oven, and was a member of High View Baptist Church. 

She enjoyed sewing, singing, cooking, going to church, and spending time with her family.

Surviving are six children, Ronnie Wilbourn of Greensboro, NC, Allen Wilbourn & wife, Angela of Roxboro, NC, Elsmere Wilbourn of Chapel Hill, NC, Yvonne Burgett of Clarksville, VA, Veronica Bohannon of Arizona, Vanessa Wilbourn of Henderson, NC, three sisters, Hazel Bible, Eileen Sharpe, Jenny Akers, eighteen grandchildren, forty-eight great grandchildren, and thirteen great-great grandchildren. 

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Wilbourn is preceded in death by two daughters, Caroline Wilbourn, Jacqueline Shumaker, two sisters, Iris Smart, Jean Hawes, and two brothers, Douglas Route, and Cyril Route. 

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 18, 2023 at High View Baptist Church with the Rev. Avery Dalton, and the Rev. Fred Lowery officiating.  Interment will follow in the Person Memorial Cemetery.  The family will receive friends and guests for one hour prior to the service at the church and other times at the home.

Pallbearers will be Aaron Bohannon, Cameron Crowder, Christopher Long, Ric Long, Coby Rice, David Rice, Dillon Wilbourn, Jesse Wilbourn, and Joshua Wilbourn.
