Danny Spurgeon Denny

DANNY SPURGEON DENNY, age 73, of 82 Toy Lane, Timberlake, NC passed away Friday night, August 4, 2023 at the Hock Family Pavilion.

Mr. Denny was born July 28, 1950 in Person County, NC, son of the late Rufus Spurgeon & Annie Pearl “Peachie” Canada Denny and was husband of 43 years to Rita Cash Denny who survives.  He was owner/operator of Denny’s Welding for nearly 25 years and was a member of Helena Methodist Church. 

Danny, known best as Double D, was loved by so many.  He was larger than life with an infectious personality.  He loved his family with all his heart.  Danny was a skilled welder and was owner/operator of Denny’s Welding of Timberlake; which he later passed on to his sons, Chris and Kevin.  His idea of a perfect outfit was a Hawaiian shirt, a pair of shades, and flip flops.  He was a teller of truths and tall tales (sometimes in the same breath).  You could find him in his shop with a cold drink, good music, and an even better story to share with you.  He always had the baddest hot rods and loved going to car shows.  He enjoyed camping with his family and cruising the campgrounds on his souped up golfcart.  Cooking Sunday dinner for the family was a weekly tradition that he valued.  Danny lived life to the fullest and to know him was to love him.  He will truly be missed.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three sons, Scot Brooks (Kelli), Kevin Denny (Brooke), Chris Denny (Katie), daughter, Cindi Denny Cole, sister, Darlene O’Brien  (Curt), eight grandchildren, Layne Cole, Kynlee Brooks, Kaiden Denny, Khloe Denny, Anniston Denny, Rylin Brooks, Charlotte Denny, Katherine Denny, very special nephew, Emory Brooks (Emily), and their son Riggins.

In addition to his parents, Danny is preceded in death by brothers, Rufus Nelson “Ike” Denny, Johnny Thaxton Denny, and sister, Carolyn Denny Perkins.

Celebration of Life services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 8, 2023 in the Strickland and Jones Funeral Services Chapel with Dr. M. David Chambers officiating.  The family will receive friends and guests from 6:30 till 8:00 p.m. Monday, August 7, 2023 at Strickland and Jones Funeral Services and other times at the home. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Helena Methodist Church, 290 Helena Moriah Road, Timberlake, NC 27583.
