Charlie Gordon James

CHARLIE GORDON JAMES, age 89, of 201 Stephens Drive, Roxboro, NC passed away Saturday evening, July 15, 2023 at his home.

Mr. James was born March 12, 1934 in Person County, NC son of the late Charlie Gaddis and Ollie Hatcher James and was husband of Marion Dixon James who survives. He worked in telecommunications, attended Roxboro High School, was a veteran of the U.S. Navy enlisting during the Korean war.  He received his GED while serving in the U.S. Navy, and was a member of Grace-Cavel Methodist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Marcia Howard & husband, Chris of Raleigh, NC, son, Paul James of Roxboro, NC, two brothers, William James of Mebane, NC, and Tim James & wife, Nancy of Roxboro, NC, two grandchildren, Paxton Howard & wife, Krista, and Christian Howard.  

In addition to his parents, Mr. James is preceded in death by a brother, Bobby James. 

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 19, 2023 in the Strickland and Jones Funeral Services Chapel with the Rev. Ross Thompson officiating.  Interment will follow in the Providence Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends and guests for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at the home.

Pallbearers will be Floyd Bowes, Clay Carmichael, Wendell Carmichael, Larry Coleman, Mike Daniel, Chris Dixon, Christian Howard and Aaron James.

Flowers are acceptable or memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142.
