Carrie Powell Obituary

Carrie Elizabeth Powell, age 81, of Roxboro, North Carolina, peacefully passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2025, after bravely facing a battle with dementia.

Born on October 29, 1943, in Person County, Carrie spent most of her life in Roxboro, where she built a life full of love, faith, and family. She had the opportunity to travel the country and experience many places, but her heart was always rooted in her home and the people she loved.

Carrie married the love of her life, William "Bill" Powell, shortly after they began dating — a bond that would have celebrated 65 years of marriage on July 17, 2025. Together they raised three children: Billy Wayne, Debbie, and little Christopher, who passed away just three days after his birth — a loss Carrie carried in her heart always.

Carrie was a woman of great strength, both in spirit and in body. She bravely fought and beat breast cancer, a battle that showed her resilience and determination to keep going for the ones she loved. Later in life, she faced dementia with that same quiet strength and grace.

A strong believer in the Lord, Carrie cherished going to church and sharing her faith. She had a special way of making everyone feel loved and welcomed — never meeting a stranger, and always speaking from the heart.

Carrie also had a soft spot for her two birds, Joey and Candi, who became her constant companions and were doted on like her own children. She had a fun-loving spirit and wasn't shy about her loyalty to her beloved Carolina Tar Heels basketball team, even though her husband was a loyal Duke Blue Devils fan. Their friendly rivalry brought a lot of laughter to their home — especially during game season.

She was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Eliza Lee Davis; brother, Buster Davis; sons, Christopher and Billy Wayne; and daughter, Debbie.

Carrie is survived by her devoted husband, William Powell of Roxboro, NC; sister, Lynn Scott (Dan) of Roxboro, NC; brother-in-law, Michael Powell (Kathy); sister-in-law, LeRay Felton (Terry) of Graham, NC; granddaughters, Jennifer of Grimesland, NC, Jessica, and Jamie both of Gillette, WY; and many great-grandchildren who brought her endless joy.

Carrie's warmth, strength, and unwavering love for her family and faith will be remembered always. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 12, 2025 at Triple Springs Baptist Church with Pastor Gene Wolfe officiating.  Interment will follow in the Triple Springs Cemetery.  The family will receive friends and guests from 12:30 till 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
