BILLY THURMAN CLAYTON age 88, of 1222 John D. Winstead Road, Roxboro, NC died Thursday morning, April 25, 2019 at the VA Medical Center.
Mr. Clayton was born July 2, 1930 in Person County, NC son of the late James Ralph & Ida Sue Chandler Clayton and was husband to the late Eunice Arlington Brooks Clayton. He was retired from Collins & Aikman Corp. after 43 years of service, was an avid golfer, enjoyed dancing, fishing, bowling, was of the Baptist faith, and was a veteran of the US Army.
Surviving are three children, Larry W. Clayton & wife Marissa of Apex, NC, Barry T. Clayton, Rebecca C. “Becky” Lea both of Roxboro, NC, four grandchildren, Shaun Michael Clayton, Tori Danielle Clayton, Christi Lea Osborne & husband, Todd, Kaci Marie Clayton, daughter-in-law, Dana Painter Clayton, great granddaughter, River Jay Poole, and beloved dog, Biscuit Bissette Lea.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Clayton is preceded in death by a son, Billy Michael Clayton, grandson, Jeffrey Wayne Clayton, six brothers, Macon Clayton, Bobby Clayton, Jack Clayton, Raymond Clayton, Melvin Clayton, Ozel Clayton, four sisters, Catherine Satterfield, Rachel Walker, Bessie Duke, Esther Perkins and son-in-law, Ronnie Bissette.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 28, 2019 in the Strickland and Jones Funeral Services Chapel with the Rev. Herbert Brown officiating. Interment will follow in the Person Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends and guests for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at the home.
Pallbearers will be Ray Clayton, Ronnie Clayton, Arnold Lea, Todd Osborne, Ray Perkins, and Joe Whitt. Honorary pallbearers will be Sonny Duncan and Willard Lowery.
Flowers are acceptable or memorial contributions may be made to a charity of ones choice.
