Betty Carver Obituary

After a brief illness, Betty Jane Horner Carver died peacefully early Saturday morning, May 25, 2024, surrounded by family.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents, Othelia Rupert Horner ("Mr. Field") and Inez Horton Horner. Betty is also preceded in death by her husband Larry Loomis Fowler and her first husband William Dennis Carver and by three brothers and one sister. Betty leaves behind 2 daughters, Denise Ann Carver Clark (husband Gary) of Roxboro, Donna Kaye Carver (husband Dave Close) of Raleigh, a son Michael Dennis Carver (Brad) of Chapel Hill, five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and her beloved "Miss Kitty."  Most recently in the last three years, Betty enjoyed seeing and spending time with her great grandson "Brody" and he was the "apple of her eye."

Betty worked for many years as a bookkeeper and accountant for her beloved Julian Taylor of Julian Taylor Accounting.  Betty assumed ownership of the accounting business after Mr. Taylor passed away and worked for many years serving as an accountant and tax consultant for many Person County residents.  Betty worked into her eighties and her clients loved her dearly, begging her not to retire. Betty's clients often confided in her about various personal matters and they enjoyed their "counseling" sessions while filing their annual tax returns.

Born in the Bushy Fork community, Betty also lived in the Chub Lake area and most recently at Hyco Lake where you could often find Betty and Larry boating on the lake or hosting gatherings in their "barn."  Betty and Larry enjoyed the bluegrass music scene and often attended bluegrass festivals. Betty and Larry built a mountain home on seven acres in Galax, VA and spent many years enjoying their "home away from home." Betty was active in Theresa Baptist Church for many years and taught Sunday School there for the older adult women for many years.  Her faith has always been strong, and she often confessed how comfortable she was with her end of life knowing where she would spend eternity.

A graveside service will be held in the summer on her birthday.
