"Ray" Raymond Walter Beneville

RAYMOND WALTER “RAY” BENEVILLE, age 80, of 101 Dan Winstead Road, Roxboro, NC passed away Tuesday afternoon, September 17, 2019 at his home.

Mr. Beneville was born July 16, 1939 in Bergen County, NJ, son of the late Raymond Emil & Evelyn Koelln Beneville and was husband of 48 years to Faye Ann Clayton Beneville who survives.  He resigned from the Department of Corrections as a Lieutenant then upon his retirement from Averitt Trucking after 35 years of service he worked as a guard in the Person County Jail for about 18 months and was a veteran of the NC National Guard.

Ray enjoyed drawing, painting, telling stories, Tar Heel sports, NY Giants football, but above all spending time with his family. 

Surviving in addition to his wife is a son, Jerry Thompson & wife, Dana, two grandsons, Matthew Thompson & wife, Heather, Josh Thompson all of Roxboro, NC, two special great granddaughters, Lily Ann Thompson, Piper Eve Thompson, and special nieces, Penny Clayton, Beverly Clayton, and Tracy Cooper.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 19, 2019 in the Strickland and Jones Funeral Services Chapel with the Rev. Herbert Brown officiating.  Interment will follow in the Person Memorial Cemetery.  The family will receive friends and guests for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at the home. 

Pallbearers will be M.J. Atkins, Gerald Clayton, Mike Clayton, Bruce Humphries, Lyn Long, Larry Tupman, Marc Tupman, and Darnell Wolfe.  Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Alease Clayton, Merritt Harris, Maggie Long, and Mary Jane Phelps.

Flowers are acceptable or memorial contributions may be made to Medi Home, Health, & Hospice of Person County, 355 South Madison Blvd., Suite A, Roxboro, NC 27573 or to a charity of one’s choice.
